Finishes » TRP2
Invariably when street lighting columns collapse it is due to base corrosion at, or near, the groundline.
Corrosion can be internal as well as external. Acid soils, road de-icing salt, dog urine, acid rain, chemical weed killers as well as acid condensates from vehicle exhaust fumes, all cause ground-water contamination which leads to rapid corrosion unless the root is adequately protected.
Nowadays all street columns are galvanised but the zinc protection on the root will have a very short life if there is no additional protection - hence the need for a duplex coating. (Zinc + another).
Recently MALLATITE has made a massive investment in an automated plant, which Thermoplastic Anti Corrosion System coats the outside of a column root to the height of planting depth + 250mm, internal coating is optional.
This THERMOPLASTIC ROOT PROTECTION system, which gives TOTAL root protection, is particularly suitable for those not wishing to go to the expense of a totally coated column and who are satisfied with either a galvanised or painted finish for the rest of the column. For those who usually insist on additional metal thickness in the base of a column to safely allow for the corrosion, this double coating makes the additional expenditure for the heavier column unnecessary and, in some cases, the over all cost of the column can be lower with TRP2 finish.
